| My ex and I have a puppy (Sam), he's 18 wks. I've raised the puppy since the day we got him. He was never there for the puppy. Now that we broke up he's trying to take Sam, is there anything I can do so he dosen't take my puppy away from me? When we got the puppy there were no pappers. The dog right now is not under anyone's name. He dosn't have any of his shot's either. |

| If you bought the dog from the breeder or adopted him from the pound, you should have signed papers. Whoever's name is on these is the legal owner of the dog. I would advise contacting a civil lawyer for advice...if your ex's name is on the dog's papers you can still sue for custody. (your ex may give up if you threaten legal action anyways...guys are wimps) *I'm editing my answer to respond to your addition. I don't know what state you live in, so I recommend searching for a law or court precedent regarding doggie custody. Try google search of -(your state) law dog ownership- and see what you get. My dog is AKC registered with me as the owner...maybe you can just do that? |
