...goes off? I have a kitten who is almost 5 months old. He has gotten into a really bad habbit where he cries at our bedroom door every morning at 5:30am regardless if the alarm goes off or not. This is so frustrating to us in the mornings - especially if we do not have to be up at that hour. He is not ready to sleep in the bedroom because he just causes trouble all night. I do NOT want to lock him in a room all night because that is not fair!! What else can I do to try and brake him of this habbit?? Help!
I do get out of bed so he stops - but I should not have to. There is nothing he "needs" from me. He has food out already. Plus, 5:30 is NOT time to get up anyway - at least if it is not a work day. And 99% of the time I do not need to be up until 6 - he has me up at 5:30. He just wants attention - nothing else
I agree with what Stef said about if I cave he will just keep doing it. I totally agree with that and kept that in the back of my mind. The problem is, on work days I NEED to get up around or I won't make it to work. So by default he gets his way. I love wht Cleopatra said - because it is true... and made me laugh ) This is now my third cat, and I know it comes with being owned by one, I just never had a kitty so persistant!!! He just needs to make sure I am giving him attention. It is cute and all, but when I am half out of it... it makes it tough. Thanks for all the advice!

That's pretty tough because cats are a little more stuburn then other pets and will persist longer then dogs, for example, if they don't get thier way.

I would have said lock it in a room all night, like kennel training, but you don't like that idea so here's my other idea: Like a baby, if you show the kitten that it get's its way by crying then you are training your cat to cry. You need to ignore it when it cries and under no circumstance give it attention when it's being bad. If you need earplugs to do so then go get them. 30 cents at Wal-Mart. If you keep on the path you're going then as soon as the cat is old enough to sleep with you it will still wake you up in the moring because it knows it can.

Tough love, that's the answer.
