I have tried almost everything on my mare, who's breed is unknown. I'm in need of some other method, and it cannot be violent, due to her being mistreated by previous owners.

what have you tried first of all?? go across the middle of your ring and turn her into the bend. if you both are new to it you will probably need help from a trainer.

As difficut as it seems I found i quiet easy. First pick up you canter/lope going left. Next when you get to corner #3 canter diagnoaly(sp?) 1-------2- to corner #2 in the middle ofthe 3-------4- ring turn your horses leg to the right and bump/kick with your left leg. In theory your horse should cange its lead. I hope this helped I know its confusing but it is easy once you get tyhe hang og it

Try taking your horse in a half arena circle at a lope, when you get in the center slow to a trot and ask for a lope in the new lead. (a simple lead change). After you do this for a while to give your horse the idea of what you are trying to accomplish. Then instead of slowing to a trot, tilt your horses nose in the direction your horse was loping in to take away that lead. Then put your hand forward on the other side--the new direction, put your other hand back ( more your shoulders really) Click and ask for your new lead. You should get it with a little practice. Just remember you need to be in a position to allow your hore to get in the other lead. It helps to do with your arms what you want him to do with his front legs. Hope you can figure me out. Good luck! Also Parelli has a really good DVD on lead changes.
