Maybe cause there's no birdseed in it and he needs a place to spend the night. Either that or the Roach Motel was all booked up.

He sounds warm, dry and comfy! perfect rodent house. We have chipmunks that get into our bird houses... we had to put up additional birdhouses on poles (not hanging or on trees). I always thought rodents like chipmunks burrowed, but i guess i was wrong!

This is most alarming. I would quarantine the area at once. Put on a NBC suit and plug the hole with a quark. The final step would be to douse the bird house in gasoline and let let her rip. If the varmint doesn't die and tries to escape as the fiery bird house begins to break apart keep a sledge hammer ready to smash the ever living shit out of the insolent rodent. Justice will be served!
