My brother has asthma and my mom is saying that's a reason we can't get a cat. But my best friend has asthma and she lives with 2 dogs and 4 cats and told me that only mold, etc affects asthma. Who's right?

The dander from the animals can affect the asthma, depending on how bad it is, any airborn particles can affect asthma. It's not just mold that affects it.

It all depends on how sensitive an individual is, you must remember no two asthmatics are identical and what may trigger an attack in one person may not in another...pet hair, especially pet dander can trigger an attack in most asthmatics.....as well as fleas if one of the pets is unfortunate in getting them & bringing them into the home. Mold, mildew, dust,pollen....these too are allergins for many people and can act as triggers in asthmatics.....so listen to your Mom, hon...she's right. And remember, one day you'll be grown up with your own home, then you'll be able to have a cat if you choose to........Good Luck!
