I do not have Bible verses to back up what I have always felt about animals. I believe God made humans, animals and plants. He loves all His creation. We were given the brain capacity to communicate with the creator, but I think that since we are made in his image, we feel compassion and love for animals. I would think He enjoyed watching them play and love the humans He created. Oh yea! The lamb will lay down with the lion. Friendly fashion.

I really do not know any scriptures that talk about Jesus and animals except for two. The one where Jesus drives the demons out of the man and into the pigs and the one where He comes into town riding a donkey. What I'm pretty sure of is that He did/does not condone cruelty to animals.

And Jesus Christ looked upon the Apostles and said, "From now on, you shall no longer spell my name Christ with an H, and thy Fluffy Shnookie Wookie will be 'llowed to be present in thy abode."

Proverbs 12:10 A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.

The Bible won't be any proof of anything. And I think you'l have a hard time finding proof otherwise.

I'm thinking that while that man was alive, he probably incouraged people to be kind to animals, but had no objections to eating meat. There's a few verses in the bible about treating animals kindly (mostly the ones working in the field.)
