The brown liquid is from the cat's anal sacs. A cat expreses his anal sacs usually when 1. he gets a fright - the powerful scent functions as a marker to remind him never to go that way again or to remind him of some danger 2. he wants to escape and he wants you (or an animal) to drop him or release him. Animals instinctively know that powerful pungent scents coming from their butts make us want to release them. Some cats urinate or defecate. So... your theory about the cat being irritated is correct.

My cat always does that she is just fine and my cat other cat just pooped all over.Anyway if it does it a whole ton take it to the vet...I don't know why but for some reason female cats seem to be way more likely to do this but don't ask me what it is that comes out because if we are talking about the same stuff it stinks but it isn't diahrrea or poop it is weird but don't worry about it too much.

Well. I know a lot bout cats. So, after many hard hours of thinking, I have concluded, No. It is not common. Even remotely. Good Luck with that though.
