Lately he's been either hanging up top of the tank of behind his plant (which he never used to do) and when he does eat he tends to spit certain pieces back out. The other day he puffed his face out at me which...maybe he's just pissed at me and thats why he did it. He used to be so energetic and now its as if he's depressed...also today he...threw up? He ate really fast then all of a sudden this pinkish long semi thick string came out of his mouth and he let it hang there for a few before spitting it out (or letting it fall out)...and whilst this was happening he wasnt moving...

what is wrong with my Stivy Betta Fish???

Has his temperature remained constant (at around 78 degrees) lately? Is his tank filtered? Have you changed the filter medium lately? Have you tested your water parameters lately, and have they tested ok? Namely, ammonia and nitrite at 0ppm, nitrates at less than 20ppm, pH at around 7.0. Have you done weekly 20% water changes (if he's in a filtered tank) or daily 50% water changes (if he's in a bowl)? If not, you need to start.

If his water parameters are ok, the temperature has remained constant, you've kept on top of your water changes and basically taken good care of him, he's probably sick. You'll need to start keeping an eye out for growths, discolorations, or lesions to manifest. When this happens, come back and post another question.

EDIT for the person below me and to all you other who think teasing bettas with a mirror is a good idea: This adds unneccessary stress, as the betta thinks there is another fish there and gets agitated. Do this too often, and you will end up weakening your fish's immune system, possibly ultimately leading him to his death. Please do not use mirrors to stimulate your fish.
