I know it is still puzzles leading scientists on the medical field, but I wonder what induces our cells do degenerate into such a terrible state. Are there any factors that can make one even more prone to get cancer other than radioactive radiation? Is there any way of prevention and how should we fight against it?

It is known that certain environmental factors cause cancer -- cigarette smoking and the association with lung cancer comes to mind. A great deal of effort is being put forth to discourage smoking (and encourage current smokers to stop).

I also wonder if an infectious link may be found at some point for certain types of cancer (i.e., who would have thought ulcers often had a baterial cause?)
