i think you should. You'll never know what happened if you don't. The docter might give you some tips on how to take care of it.

"don't THINK it was broken" Get it looked at by someone who can help know for sure and make sure everything else is OK- minor medical clinic, school nurse, ER, whatever.

Most minor crush injuries (no bone damage, minimal tissue damage) can be dealt with with asprain or other pain reliever, a basic ice program (a few minutes on, longer time off to 'rest', a few minutes on...) to relieve pain and swelling, and not using the injured part.

The catch to this is that there certainly may be some other issues involved that should be looked at. Do a doctor visit soon and avoid furture problems.

if bending is a problem or the pain becomes intence yes broken bones can become infected and the sooner you rule it out the better.

you have to go to the hospital. they will take a picture of your finger just in case. if it was crushed bad enough, the bone may not break, but could splinter. in which case, you may not need an operation. they might put a splint on your hand and keep it there for about 6 to 8 weeks, depends on your age. because children heal faster. a splint is just a brace that goes around your hand and keeps the bone in place while it heals. i mean, regardless of medical help or not, your bone will still heal. you just dont want it to heal in the wrong position. what if it was something that would not heal because it was a big fracture? you see? so, just go to the doctors to be safe. they might even give you physical therapy or exercises to do at home, that way you wont end up not being able to move your finger. to be honest, you might not have that problem because you will always be wiggling your finger no matter what you do. i had to go to 2 months of physical therapy cuz of a motorcycle accident. without the physical therapy, i might not have a chance to walk straight ever again....

My brother had that happen to him too! His nail turned sky-blue and fell off! My mom brought him to the hospital and the doctor showed him how to treat it. You definitely should!
