codine? My older relative is allergic to ******* and is in considerable pain. She is at the end stage of her life. Are there any other options that I can ask her doctor to recommend?

Ultram/******** is not ******* based. Very strong painkiller. Rx only of course, unless if you want to email me I can tell you more about that.

Of course, if she is under the care of a Doctor HE should be recommending the medication, not the other way around. Also it depends on the cause of her pain, as to the choice of painkiller.

Ultram is NOT a very strong painkiller. It's not even a narcotic, even though it acts on the same receptors as opiates. For MOST (but not all) people, it's roughly equivalent to taking an Advil or Aleve. It's a joke, and I wouldn't give it to a dog I liked for REAL pain, especially end-stage pain. Most people (including myself) who are allergic to ******* can take Hydrocodone or Oxycodone (which is stronger by a little bit) with no problem. They can usually also take morphine and Dilaudid without a problem. However, Demoral, Methadone, and Fentanyl are 100% synthetic, very strong, painkillers that would present absolutely no problems for someone with a ******* allergy, and are eminently appropriate for end stage pain.
