| I am a Freshman and it is near the end of my school year. I have been aspiring to become a doctor since I was in 5th grade. This year has been a tough one, though. I have had some A's some B's, and a C last semester in Biology and English. But, my Biology and English classes are IB courses... My question is, would it be possible, if I continue through the next few years with average grades in my IB classes and A's and B's in my other courses, to get into a good college that would later help me get into a good medical school? |

| Medical schools won't even consider your high school grades. You have plenty of time to worry about that. Just get your grades up if you want to get into a good undergrad school. Medical school will look for the competitiveness of your undergrad college, as well as your GPA, MCAT scores, interviews, etc. So all I can say is keep your grades up now so that you can get into a top notch school. But it usually doesn't matter where you go. As long as you graduate with your pre-requisites to qualify for med school, then you are good. Also, IB/AP classes are SORT OF like how college will be. The classes will be more demanding and at a higher level than high school. You will learn MORE in-depth things about Biology and Chemistry because you will have to take classes like Organic Chemistry and Microbiology, etc. So taking advanced courses will prepare you for college. Best wishes, erica |
