I saw the mortgage crisis coming 4 years ago when I heard about people making the stupid decision to get a home loan and subprime rates while paying interest-only payments when they had no capital, high debt, and a highly unlikely possibility of paying off their mortgage. I think the fact that housing prices all over my state (California) were highly inflated also tipped me off that if the values crashed, people wouldn't be able to even make the principle back if they put their houses up for sale.

I don't understand why these people should be bailed out, or why mortgage lenders who sunk money into bad funds that were doomed should get bailed out either. I don't see how bailing Bear Sterns is supposed to prevent an economic collapse if everyone with a brain knew that Bear Sterns was a dead fish anyway - bailout or no bailout. Neither situation inspires confidence.

i don't think they should rescue the buyer or the lender. both knew they were not qualified. let them both lose.

Republicans want to protect rich businessmen.
Democrats want to protect rich athletes and entertainers.
Politicians want to protect rich campaign donors.

They don't care about the middle class and poor anymore.
