I have put $1000 good faith deposit on the car. It already appears on my credit card. Now I changed my mind on buying the car. By law, can he keep my deposit? How long before he can refund? Do i need to take any steps? Thank you There was no agreement, Just a credit authorization form. But the salesman said it will be refunded, nothing documented to that effect,

I believe the dealer can keep the money since it is DEPOSIT,,,,,,. That is what deposit means.

I am pretty sure he can keep it, because that is the point of a deposit. You could try doing a chargeback on your credit card.
