My luteal phase averages between 8-10 days, with 9 being the most common. When I asked to have my progesterone (7 dpo)checked to address this, my doctor told me she was unfamilar with this test, which made me nervous! She let me have it and when I called for the results it was 3.7 and I was told this was normal. When I questioned the records person that this was not normal, she said I would need to talk to the doctor. I am worried the doctor will have no idea since she was unaware of the test in the first place. She did order a hsg, and I did all the other day 3 hormone levels which came back normal, with a very good fsh. Does this sound like a luteal phase issue to you? How do I talk about this with my doctor? Am I ovulating? I always get positive opk's around day 16/17. This month I got a positive opk two days early, but also had AF 2 days early. I ask this because I heard if you have low progesterone 7 dpo it is unlikely that you ovulated.

YES, GET A NEW DOCTOR. Not only is she unprofessional, but she doesn't know what she's doing. A luteal phase of 9 IS a problem. Even if your progesterone level was normal, a 9-day luteal phase will keep you from getting pregnant. Also, your LP shouldn't vary. It should be about the same every cycle, with an exception on very few occasions. You have reason enough to go see a fertility specialist, even if you haven't been trying for a year. A fertility specialist will test you properly, diagnose you properly, and treat you PROMPTLY so you can get pregnant. Fertility specialists are also known as reproductive endocrinologists (RE), get a referral ASAP and find out what's going on. Good luck.

Your Luteal phase is definitely short, and low progesterone should be the first thing any doctor suspects. If yours doesn't know that much, I wouldn't trust her.

YES GET A NEW DOCTOR. I sounds like you're better qualified to be doing this kind of work than she is! And even if she's simply learning the field, you're paying for professional advice and simply not getting it. Change. Absolutely! In a recent survey of doctors, most doctors said that if they were unhappy with their own GP, they would change. If THEY'RE doing it, why shouldn't the rest of us?! ps: ... and yes, it sounds like with a little additional progesterone each month (probably starting at 3dpo) you might be able to get a 10 or 11 day luteal phase within a few cycles. It very much sounds like you're ovulating on target. I would consider charting your BBTs which will help ensure that you're ovulating and save you from additional tests. Good luck xoxoxox
