Help! My parents own my car but I'm trying to convince them to let me take it either up with me to the camp i work at over summer *5 hours away* and/or back to school with me *in Vermont from CA*. I have told them I will pay for gas, insurance and shipping on the car *if i take it back to college*. I'm 20 and feel I should be able to have this car to do things with on the weekends... any thoughts to help convince them of this? or am i being rude and self centered? thanks!
Added info:
My parents bought this car for me to learn with when I was 16...and then they bought me a nicer one when i was 18. I want the first one because its 4 wheel drive for skiing and such *where i work at college*. They don't use it. I think its more of a fear they have of me getting in an accident and them not being there for me *I have no accidents or tickets on my record*

Yeah, if you can pay for it. If you're offering to pay for gas, insurance, and shipping then it sounds like you're in the financial position to make an offer like that.

You should definitely have your car and if they won't let you I would start saving...or do what I do I bought a car myself and I make my payments!

Show them you can be responsible driving and tell them to take the car back if you get involved on an accident (that is your fault) or you get a ticket.

You're 20??? GEEZ if they don't let you have the car that's really messed up!!! You have several good reasons to have a car, you're old enough to be mature and responsible and they should trust you to take care of the car. Keep bringing it up! I just turned 18 and the only reason my mom won't let me have a car right now is cause she doesn't wanna pay for insurance yet. But I'm going to go to college 2 hours away from home and she totally understands that I need a car. So keep bugging your parents about it cause dude you really do need a car from what I can tell.

Anyway,

Do your parents use the car? If they do then it's not fair for you to take it away for months.

If they don't need it, why not ask your parents how you can convice them to let you borrow it?
