CA has a remark on my credit report? I failed to return some equipment from a cable provider and it went to collections. This was few years ago. I lost some of the equipment and returned whatever I had last year. Recently I called the provider and they updated the account and told me I can pay up the cost for the lost equipment. And they agreed verbally that they would remove all derogatory items from my credit report. However, my credit report has a derogatory item from the collection agency with the cost of the complete equipment (not just the lost equipment). Is it advisable to send a check with restrictive endorsement saying that the provider agreed to remove all derogatory items from credit report upon cashing the check or do I have to deal with the collection agency only?

Any advise will be greatly appreciated.
