I finally got my own business rolling, and I feel that my friends (mostly from college, which was several years ago) are quietly upset that I've done something they would never have the guts to do.

I know that sounds awful, but when we talk, email, or IM anymore the conversations seem to be shorter and sometimes meaner.

I'd love to know what other people think on this subject. I've been very surprised how much a small business changes people's attitudes toward you. And I'm particularly surprised how many genuine, good, long-time friends just can't handle it.

What's up with that?

Or am I just paranoid?

well it can be two things.
1) in order to become successful at your business you've spent all your time invested in getting it running which means you haven't been hanging out with your friends as much. It may have started with them asking if you want to go out, and you always say no so the eventually stopped asking.

2) They are jealous of your success in which case i think if you care about them, never flaunt your success in their faces, don't pull up in a BMW, don't dress in expensive clothes around them. But in reality if they can't be happy for your success they aren't good friends anyway are they.

I believe you are paranoid as odds are your friends lives are also more complicated which limits their free time to chat, email, etc..,

Be your self and be respective of their choice to follow a different path than that which you have chosen
