...viruses, no adware, no nothing. Why? I am not running any more programs that are on a computer that is new off the shelf. It takes forever to get something done. Any ideas?

you are probably running out of memory. windows xp is a huge memory hog. when a computer runs out of RAM it starts storing information on the hard drive in what's called virtual memory. the hard drive is several orders of magnitude slower than regular RAM and it brings your computer to a grinding halt. if you were running xp before without any problems, and after reinstall this is going on, you probably have some features turned on by default that were off before. go through your system control panel and turn off all the whiz-bang graphical doodads and junk like that you don't need.
