cancel a credit card transaction? I was recently approached by a man at college and he offered me a promotional package which would be for 5 months and the total charge would be $100.00 in monthly payments, II gave him my credit card number and signed. I did have a bad feeling about it so I decided to research it and found the company rating was an F and had a lot of complaints. I called my credit card company and blocked my account, then I called the guy who approached me the same day, and told him I had cancelled the transaction, and they would not be able to charge me anything. A week later, he called me threatening he was going to send my account to collections. Can they do that?

Of course they can if you agreed to the terms.

Will they? Probably not.

Check the "cancellation rights" for your state (google it). You may (probably?) have a 3 day cooling off period. Sounds like a scam to me and I doubt he will do anything, but he may have the option depending on what you were purchasing. It would help to know the company and product, but I'll bet you are probably ok.

Sorry. Their rating with BBB is not relevant. You voluntarily entered into a contract with them.

Since you value the BBB's opinion, consider this: If you contact the BBB you will be told that returning goods and canceling orders is not a right, but a privilege granted by the merchant's policy.

Well, no. If you vioded the transaction from your credit company directly then it's over. There's nothing that the poor bastard can do.

But, if he called you with a threat like that I'd call the cops if he calls again.

But still you have nothing to worry about. No collection agency would repo anything without a court order.
