| It is more secure than Windows XP. It has more security features, an integrated two-way firewall and IE 7 runs in an isolated area of the operating system, in theory this prevents malware and viruses from getting on the system. Vista is also built on a different code base than Windows XP, it is still written in C/C++ but instead of building on Windows XP code to make Lonhorn they started from scratch which results in a much more stable operating system. Vista is also able to shut down problematic applications (not responding) without taking the whole system with it. Should a program crash in Vista it will attempt to shut down just that process without taking down the whole operating system. There are a lot of under the hood improvements in Vista and for every single one check out the Winsupersite, below. Vista also has more user operating modes, I forget where it is called but you are no longer required to run as "Admin" to be able to make system changes and install software but this new mode also prevents so many online attacks from affecting the system. |
