Don't you think that the politicians including the president should give more control to the military and for the politicians to keep their nose out of military operations so our troops can do their job and come home? This is not an attempt to attack our president or a certian political party.

In your country the president is a rank of the militry, therefore as the commander and chief he at least has to take control. However down under we work the other way, the only link the RAA, RAN and the RAAF have to the military is through the minister for defence. That way we keep out of politics and they keep out of the military, works well

No. It is important for politicians (who are an extension of the people) to keep an eye on the military. The military only exists to protect the other branches of government, so we should never allow it to gain too much atonomy. Besides, without politians and the President (who is, afterall Commander & Chief), the military would have no mission.

We in the military work for civilian bosses that are appointed by the President and approved by Congress. The President gives the orders, but Congress controls the budget. It's the people's money that funds us after all. Furthermore, we are an extension of the government's political strength, often used to secure geopolitical goals rather than strictly to defend our country. As such, we will never be free of political machinations.
