| One of the best places to go to find out about candidates for elective office in the United States is “Project Vote Smart.” The following paragraph is from their WEB site and the source link goes to that WEB site: “Thousands of candidates and elected officials. Who works for you? Who is seeking your vote? Project Vote Smart, a citizen's organization, has developed a Voter's Self-Defense System to provide you with the necessary tools to self-govern effectively: abundant, accurate, unbiased and relevant information. As a national library of factual information, Project Vote Smart covers your candidates and elected officials in five basic categories: biographical information, issue positions, voting records, campaign finances and interest group ratings. What would you like to know? Access our library of information through either the menu on the left hand side or the links above.” Keep in mind, in the United States there are literally thousands of candidates for elective office every two years. In 1992 there were well over 100 candidates alone for President of the United States. While I am not aware of any Muslim candidates at the federal level, there may well be such and I’m sure that there are such at State and local levels. |

| The United States Congress is divided into two houses, the House of Representatives and the Senate. The House has 435 members, with the numbers from each state based on the population of the state, while the Senate has 100 members, two from each state. Every two years, the entire House and 1/3 of the Senate goes up for election. As of now, there are no Muslims in Congress, and I know of none that ever have. There do not appear to be any Muslims who have announced their candidacy for Senate. The list of candidates so far is in the first source below. The election is not until November 2006, so there will likely be more candidates. There is, unfortunately, no list of all candidates for the House, but the other source has a list of key races in the election. I can't find anything online mentioning Muslim candidates. There will likely be more info as the election nears. |
