| News are made by people, and people are biased. http://www.cnn.com is viewed as unbiased (at least in the West), but has very few non-financial news. http://news.bbc.co.uk is nice, but sponsored by UK government. Since most outlets are biased some way, you gotta read both sides of the story if you want to get to the truth. http://news.google.com/ has a ton of news sources |

| Get to one of the mainstream news services, and identify the stake-holders on a given bit of news. Services like Google News usually give a broad selection across political and national spectrum. Try to find services reporting from different points of view, and compare the information given. For instance, when you hear news from Iraq, consult CNN for a generalized US view on the events and Al Jazeera for the Arab side, then pick some non-stake holder news services (e.g. "Old" European, Russian, or Chinese) and compare. What all of them agree upon might be regarded as factual information. The rest will be biased, and can be weighted accordingly. Go and choose the bias which comes closest to your own. As for trustworthy, personal or editorial bias or even propaganda will always slip into the news. If you know the bias, even propaganda can be somewhat trustworthy if compared to other sources. |
