If yes, how do I prevent my computer from slowing down? Is there anything I can do to maintain it at its optimum speed and performance?

Thanks for all your help!

What slows you down are the things that get installed that run at startup and continue to run in the background. To clean it up i use a program called startup control panel.

To be notified when a program wants to start up with windows i use one called startupmonitor.

Both are available for free personal use at http://www.mlin.net

yes it depends on how much space your game has taken from the hard disk...
i recommend you to buy a new good sized RAM card of minimum 2gb or else no way to run your computer like a super computer...

Yes, it takes alot of memory. the More memory you use, the slower the computer. Try deleting unwanted files and defraging the hard drive.
