...pay rent to him? I just found out that the house I rent and the other two on the property are going up for auction this month. The notice we recieved advised that we seek leagal council. It also stated that the mortgage hasn't been paid since December however we all have been paying ren to our landlord every month. Now all of our houses are going up for auction this month and we may all have to move because of this. Should I still pay rent to th landlord who is the process loosing his property? If the houses do get sold and we have to move how will we get our deposits back? By the way ths is in Vallejo, CA

By law yes. You signed a contract with the landlord. And, if he did a credit check on you, he has the ability to go through a debt collection company later. If he doesn't have your social security number he can still take you to small claims court. The judge, nine times out of ten is going to side with him since you all have a lease agreement. It's not worth the trouble. The lease agreement was a promise from you that you would fullfill the agreement to pay the rent. Keep your word and do the right thing.

Your contract is with the landlord. So you are required to pay the rent. However,, If I were you,, I would consider moving to another place,, The new owners might not want you to leave, so you will just continue to live there,, the other matter is between the landlord and the bank,, not with you.
