Sure. The rightful profits of thousands of people's lifelong labors were not inherited by their children, but were instead taken by other people. We may not be able to identify individuals on both sides (although in many cases pretty good records are available of whose ancestor owned whose ancestor, and the no reparations folks don't want those cases addressed either) but certainly precedent exists for group reparations; the German government funding various things for both the State of Israel and various Jewish organizations, for a recent and large example, in addition to reparations for individually documented cases.

And secondly, the argument that the effects of slavery are all over with by now is obviously just nuts; unless you happen to be of the persuasion that black Americans are just inherently inferior which is why they have more problems today than white Americans.
