Why does my friend think Richard Vernon (Principle) is such a great guy? To me he represents oppression of freedom and the overall indoctrination of impressionable minds. In short he's a loser and leads a pointless existence. Your thoughts?

he used to be a great educator and understand kids, but he has lost his way. carl the janitor and brian's essay will put him back on the right path.

Yeah he was a jerk but it made the movie that much better. He died a couple years ago or maybe just one year ago of cancer. I heard he was a great guy in real life. In the movie he represents what we would NOT want in a leader of our school system.

That perspective would probably be age related. If you were young, you would hate the Principle. If you were older, you would still see him as a jerk, but you also understand what he is talking about. Albeit he is rough and nasty, he makes a lot of good points about the situations he was in.
