it's not a question of separation of church and state, it's just that intelligent design is not science, and thus should not be taught in a science class. would you teach calculus in an english class?? no, you wouldn't.

Due to stark ignorance, plain and simple. To claim that "evolution has not been entirely proven" is a gross negligence on the part of that person for not understanding what a scientific theory is. We can safely say that the evidence for evolution is so overwhelming as to make it, in the human context, a fact. Not one reputable scientist would even consider refuting this. It would be like refuting the theory of relativity just because it's a "theory." Intelligent Design, on the other hand, has absolutely no justification in the scientific context. It's not at all like evolution, because it deals with the paranormal or supernatural. Mysticism cannot be tested or experimented on. To accept it on belief or faith is one thing (though in my opinion a conflict with objective reality), but to offer it as a theory simply because evolution is only 99.9999999% proven and not quite 100% is ridiculous.

There's plenty of science surrounding Intelligent Design. Check out the source I gave you. Also, consider this. Where did DNA come from? Science has not found a medial state for it.. DNA simply poof! existed one day, and not the day before. Frankly, the reason that Intelligent Design isn't good science is only because of the fact that it was a theory before it was a hypothesis. Now, though, it's plenty able to be tested and join in with the scientific process.
