I have always wanted to start a business of my own doing something in the accounting and payroll field in which I am qualified. Is it really hard to start out in getting the clients built up?

I currently own a small private payroll processing business. It's actually not difficult to build up clientele, particularly since you don't need to pay for the overhead of an ADP or a PayChex. The difficulty that you would potentially have is in the selection of a software program to manage your business. Thomson financial has a good program as does a company based down in San Antonio Texas. The company in San Antonio (ExecuPay) has a program that would allow you to lease their systems and software for your practice.

Client buildup will not be speedy and will require a little bit of cash to do unsolicited mailings. It's a great way to get people that are looking for the service to call you. We got about 50 new clients in the last 6 months doing this.

Since accounting is a field that most businesses need help of qualified people, you always have chances of getting good business. Only thing u have to do is to stay up to date with market updates in ur area of work and use it to help business benefit with it.

For example, u could team up with some IT companies that sells accounting software, and help implementing these softwares in this company, this will give u a good sales oppurtunity and also give u a plus point that other competition dont have. Such as this there are many ways u can think of promoting your services.

Some times having some industry recognised certification can also help you gain business.

Starting a new business is hard but not impossible. To get going you probably want to keep your day job and do this on the side until you build up enough clients to support yourself. Contact support groups like the Better business Bureau, the Small business Administration and civic associations for advice. Good luck!
