I am a 46 year old man with a High School education. I have worked 28 years for a construction company before they decided to place me on long term disability for Crones Disease. The company pays me $15,000.00 per year to stay home and not work due to the fact that I need to use the toilet two or three times a day. The company stated that I can not work for any other company as long as they are paying me a yearly income with some medical benefits. I am find it is difficult to pay some of my debts and I would like to supplement my income with a job without jeopardizing my current salary. Some people mentioned a job for cash, but I have not found any to this date. I feel that I am too young and useful to stay home and do nothing and I need the extra income. I do not know if other companies would hire a person with a known medical condition in today's job market being 46 years old and with only a High School diploma. Would anyone have any suggestions? Sincere Thanks to your answers.

In order to supplement income is to apply for a temp agency. I am sure that a temp agency in your area specialize in construction. Temp agencies let anyone come in as long they have a resume. If you need help on your resume, talk to an employment counselor. They will help you "write" a resume. No one can have a job these days without a resume. I am sure that someone will help you no matter age you are.

Oh, man! I am sorry about your situation. My dad had what they thought was Lou Gehrig's disease - ALS. Actually, we don't know what he had. He had a similar situation to yours. He was a janitor for Western Airlines before he got sick at about 45. He never learned to read or write. So he was at a disadvantage compared to you. The things that come to mind for your situation are: 1. I am a mechanical and electrical drafter - I draw stuff on Autocad and Microstation software. A number of folks work at home doing Architectural drafting at home. 2. My brothers girlfriend does something called Medical Billing and coding. Both of these kinds of things can be learned through correspondence cources. Also, if you have a specialized knowledge: I.E. how to start a carpet cleaning service, how to paint, or whatever you think people will want to know. You should go to Ebay and look for "how to" information. If you are at home you can put together little booklets or CDs and sell info to folks. There is one great example I bought a couple years ago on how to make balloon animals. A guy is selling a CD with his daughters teaching people how to make balloon animals. So, whatever info you know. If you know how to hypnotize. Make tapes at home for non smoking and sell on Ebay. Also, there are tons of places on line to learn HTML for free, so you can build a web page, and get free hosting. I babble, but those are a couple of ideas. Good luck.
