...allow me to make home dvds? My pc is an amd athalon Win xp media edition...brand new 1 gig ram 200 gb hard drive. I tried Pinnacle Studio and found it cheezy - bug ridden. Wish to use this for my business to create biz dvds.

Hiya. You need video capturing hardware and software to be able to capture the video from your VHS and/or camcorder and a DVD R/Write drive for buring the DVDs.

Seeing that u have a windoze media edition PC, you likely have all the hardware you need already (including DVD burner). For video capture input, look on the machine to see if it has inputs for RCA cables and/or S-video cable or similar. You can connect the "video out" from your VHS directly to these inputs. If you dont have video capture device already, they are quite cheap. If you buy one, you might consider going ahead and getting one with a TV tuner so you could also capture ota/cable TV if you wanted too.

There are also external video capture devices that connect to your PC via USB cable or similar, but I never had much luck with those.

As far as software... I too heard that the newer Pinnacle is cumbersome and buggy. I've been using ULead video studio for 4 - 5 years now for working with my home movies and find it more than adequate for tasks I do, and easy to use from video capture, editing, to burning to DVD.

Pinnacle Studio version 10 seems to be very buggy. I have been using Pinnacle Studio since version 7 and they have all been excellent until version 10 came out. Version 9 will do everything you want to do and is very easy to use compared to Adobe Premiere, etc. Ulead products would be another good choice.
