| Every number in every vehicle idenitification number (VIN) has a meaning, that can be decoded. Get the complete VIN from the registration or the vehicle itself and run it through a decoding program such as http://www.vehicleidentificationnumber.com/vehicle_identification_numbers_vin_decoding.html |

| In the new style versions, e.g MN52, the first number stands for whether it was registered in the first half of the year or the latter.............so cars with 02 would be from the first half of 2002 and 52 cars would be from the second half of 2002. In the older system, the letters followed a similiiar system. A good idea is to have one letter for reference.......say you take the letter N, which is latter half of 1996, therefore an L- reg car would be late 1995 and a P-reg car would be early 1997. Certain letters are not included though, like O because it can be confused with zero and Q because thats exclusively for Kit cars. |
