Because it needs an oil change. You should change your oil every 3 months, max. Even sooner if you put a lot of mileage on it.

Some cars are programed now to automatically give a "service engine" light if they need an oil change.

It could be something else, too.

Unfortunately, the only way to find out is to take it to a mechanic (or friend) who can hook it up to one of those computers. Trying to guess will only drive you mad. (no pun intended)

You should have your car checked out like yesterday ! the check engine light should not come out . Oil change needs to be done every 3 thousand miles. Your car should still be under warranty right ? or did you buy it at is ? Never the less have it checked out remember those kind of cars are electrical. Good-Luck !

for one i have always been taught to do oil changes every 3 months or 3,000 miles but u should be able to go to auto zone ( car parts store in case u dont have one there) and get a diagnosis (they will scan to see the problem)

First, look in your Owner's Manual and see what that light is supposed to indicate. It may indeed need some adjustment, or it may be that the sensor that turns the light on is faulty. Either way, call your dealer if the light remains on and ask what they suggest you do about it.

i was gonna say mabey its a crappy car, but clearly it is not, a camry is one of the best things out there, you should take it in the the toyota dealership cause it could be something small or something big, they will hook it up to a machine and it will tell them what needs to be checked or adjusted and turn the switch off.
