I am flying in with my bike and am wondering how far the ride is and is it well marked and obvious how to get to the city?

The ride is about 17 km (10 miles), so it's okay to ride by bike. The Netherlands has special bike roads and they are indicated by white signs with red letters, so it is pretty obvious. Anyway, this is a website for bike driving directions around Amsterdam: http://www.routecraft.com/fietsplanner

Attached find a link to a pdf with biking routes around schiphol. Take the route that will take you through the Amsterdamse Bos (Amsterdam park.
Biking is very safe and easy in holland but bring raingear. Biking to Amsterdam will take you probably 45 minutes.
Another option would be to take a train to say, the world trade center stop (10 minutes) in Amsterdam-South and continue your trip from there.
