My father is a surgeon, so anytime I mention even the idea of a motorcycle he tells me how dangerous they are and then goes on about all the motorcycle accident cases he has worked on. The way I see it is that motorcycles are just as safe as any other vehicle if ridden correctly [proper speed, no lane splitting, etc], and he is just worried because all he ever sees is the bad side of motorcycling.

I rode dirt-bikes all during my childhood [don't tell my dad!] and i currently bike commute everywhere, so i'm not new to riding motorcycles or riding a two wheeled, 'invisible' vehicle in heaving traffic.

You only live once! If this is a dream of yours, by all means go and indulge. Just be careful because there are certain, obvious riskes associated with motercycle riding.
